Thursday at noon marks the highly anticipated opening of the county’s first H & M; retail store at Chula Vista’s Otay Ranch Town Center.
The Swedish retailer opened its first U.S. store in March 2000 in New York and has since added more than 150 locations in the country.
H & M; (Hennes & Mauritz) is known for its inexpensive and fashionable clothing offerings for women, men, teenagers and children and has more than 1,500 stores in 28 countries.
With most of its clothes today manufactured in China, H & M; created a cheap-chic cult following by offering trendy fashions designed by high-profile names such as Stella McCartney, Roberto Cavalli and Kylie Minogue.
A company spokeswoman said that H & M; plans to attract opening day shoppers by offering free T-shirts and gift cards worth between $10 and $250 for the first 200 people to show.
The company expects to open two more H & M; stores before the end of the year, in Fashion Valley and at National City’s Plaza Bonita.
