Chancellor Asks D.A. to Look Into Downtown Property Deal

The district attorney’s office has been requested to investigate two developers who made $534,000 by selling a duplex to the San Diego Community College District only nine months after the duplex was purchased from its private owners.

The investigation was requested by Chancellor Constance Carroll to clarify “how the public’s business is conducted,” according to a news release distributed by the district on July 18.

The discrepancies of the transaction were laid out in a San Diego Union-Tribune story that investigated details of the duplex transaction by Mike Madigan and Paul Nieto.

The Union-Tribune story said Madigan and Nieto were acting on behalf of the college district.

The district said it did not have a relationship with the two men.
