The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce board voiced its opposition on April 24 to state Proposition 98 which would amend the California Constitution to prohibit the government from “condemning or damaging private property for private use.” Proposition 98 would also prevent rent control laws.
The chamber board also came out against Proposition 99 which would amend the state constitution to prohibit the government “from using eminent domain to acquire an owner-occupied residence for conveyance to a private person or business entity.” It does create exceptions, however, for protecting public health and safety.
The propositions will appear on the state ballot in June.
