Officials at McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad have designs on scrapping some portable buildings and replacing them with a new terminal that could cost as much as $16 million.
Drawings for the proposed terminal are scheduled to be shown to the public during a meeting of the airport’s advisory committee at 7 p.m. on July 20 in the Carlsbad City Council chambers.
Plans for the structure call for passenger arrival and departure areas, an eatery and concession counter, as well as a rental car section. Financing is expected to come from the Federal Aviation Administration, state grants, bonds and the airport’s enterprise fund.
Expectations are that construction could begin in 2008, with completion in early 2009.
The general aviation airport has offered commercial airline service since the early 1990s.
