The two teams for this year’s Pacific Life Holiday Bowl are the University of California and Texas A & M; University, after the latter team accepted an invitation Nov. 29. The game, to be televised by ESPN, is set for Dec. 28 at Qualcomm Stadium starting at 5 p.m.
The California Bears have an 8-3 record and came in second in the Pacific-10 Conference, while the Aggies of Texas A & M; are 9-3 and finished third in the Big 12 Conference.
This is the second time in three years that California has appeared in the Holiday Bowl. In 2004, it lost to Texas Tech University 45-31.
The two schools have met twice in their histories, with each one winning at home in the early 1980s.
The guaranteed payout to each team is $2.2 million.
The Holiday Bowl is in its 29th year, and is expected to sell out. Some 1,000 tickets remain, according to an event report.
