One of the living legends in the sport of bodybuilding will flex his pecs during his appearance at a vitamin store in the San Diego area this Saturday.
Dave Draper will appear at Vitamin Central in Encinitas. The store is at 204 #A N. El Camino Real in the Weigand Shopping Center, said Rick Branch, a spokesman for the San Marcos-based Vitamin Central.
Draper is scheduled to arrive at 1 p.m., kicking things off with a mini-seminar, followed by a question-and-answer session. He will then sign copies of his new book, “Brother Iron, Sister Steel,” Branch said.
Draper’s new book is a private journey into the world of bodybuilding. Training techniques, exercise descriptions and nutritional strategies make up the bulk of the book, but the book is also packed with Draper’s personal experiences, insights, candidness and humor, Branch said.
Draper is a former Mr. America, Mr. Universe and Mr. World during the 1960s and 1970s. He has written numerous articles for bodybuilding magazines, including Flex, Muscle Mag International, Muscular Development and Ironman.
Draper also had a career in Hollywood, with appearances in “Lord Love a Duck” (1966), opposite Roddy McDowall, and “Don’t Make Waves” (1967), opposite Tony Curtis. TV appearances include “The Tonight Show,” “The Monkees” and “The Beverly Hillbillies,” according to information on his Web site (davedraper.com).
Now in his mid-50s, Draper has continued to train and provide inspiration to those entering the sport, Branch said.
With its corporate headquarters in San Marcos, Vitamin Central opened its first store in February, in Encinitas. The company plans to have 12 to 15 stores in San Diego County within three years, he said.
