Alan Bersin, California’s secretary of education, has been reappointed to the state Board of Education for a four-year term by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The controversial former superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District, Bersin, 59, has been a member of the board since 2005. He also served on the Commission on Teacher Credentialing from 2000 to 2003. Bersin, of San Diego, is a Democrat.
The position, which requires Senate confirmation, pays no salary.
Bersin served as superintendent of the San Diego City Schools from 1998 to 2005.
