BAE Gives Dry Dock Some Care

BAE Systems said Oct. 3 that it received a $19 million contract from the U.S. Navy’s Southwest Regional Maintenance Center to refurbish and upgrade the ARCO floating dry dock.

Work on the ARCO includes painting the hull, sides and tanks, reinforcing structural bulkheads, replacing switchboards and upgrading the automated docking and centering system.

The renovations will allow the Navy to service the new Virginia-class nuclear-powered fast-attack submarines.

BAE will perform the work on the ARCO at both Naval Base Point Loma and BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair.

All work is scheduled for completion in June 2008.

BAE has major operations in San Diego and San Francisco, as well as Hawaii and Virginia, and is focused on dry dock and ship repair services for defense agencies and commercial customers.
