Austin Veum Robbins Wins Design Award for Indonesian Office Tower

San Diego architect Austin Veum Robbins Partners said it has won an international design competition for a Class A office tower in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The 29-story high-rise will consist of 520,000 square feet of space designed to serve the increasingly important technology market there.

The globe-trotting firm has done other jobs worldwide, including in Canada, China and the United Kingdom.

Gafcon Inc., a San Diego project and management firm, has been tapped by Orange County Great Park Corp. to provide design management for its proposed Great Park Master Plan.

Included in the plan is a 1,347-acre urban park to be developed within the former 4,700-acre El Torro Marine Air Station in central Orange County. Project estimates for the park range from $750 million to $1 billion, with development scheduled to begin in 2008, according to Gafcon.

Equastone, a private equity real estate firm in San Diego, recently announced the sale of Valley Commerce Center in Phoenix for $22.2 million, generating a 58 percent return over two years to Equastone Value Fund I.

The buyer was AG/FP VCC, LLC, an affiliate of Fenway Properties LLC in San Diego.

Meanwhile, in other big deals, the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee has selected Arbor Terrace, a development planned for Florida Street in North Park, to be part of its program.

Tax credits awarded by the committee to the project will allow an investor of up to $21.2 million to offset federal tax liability. Red Capital Markets Inc., has committed to making the investment, said San Diego City Councilwoman Toni Atkins, representing District 3.

This cements plans for 71 two-, three-, and four-bedroom affordable family rental housing units at that location, she said.

SADI LLC, a partnership of Squier Properties and Advanced Development & Investments Inc., in Los Angeles, will construct the project, designed to serve low-income working families.

The project will receive a $6.7 million loan from the San Diego Housing Commission.

San Diego physician John Einck won the grand prize at the second annual “House for a Home” raffle Sept. 9 hosted by Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego and John Laing Homes of San Diego , a home valued at more than $700,000.

The two-story, 2,461-square-foot John Laing home is located in Rosemary Lane at 4S Ranch, a collection of luxury homes in San Diego.

The radiation oncologist had the choice of choosing the new home or $625,000 in cash. Einck opted for the cash, and he plans to donate $25,000 of it back to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Money collected through the fund-raiser , more than $2.5 million during the past two years , will help build a new, larger San Diego Ronald McDonald House to host families of seriously ill children treated at nearby hospitals.
