AT & T; Launches ‘Cooler Than Cable’ Internet TV Service

AT & T; Inc. has announced the launch of a service that provides Internet-based television and high-speed Internet. AT & T; claims to be the first national provider to offer 100 percent Internet TV service.

The service, called AT & T; U-verse, is offered only in certain parts of San Diego County, including San Diego, Carlsbad, Encinitas and Chula Vista. However, AT & T; said it plans to expand the service’s availability throughout the county in the future.

The service brings to customers a mix of digital TV and high-speed Internet access. Subscribers will have access to several packages with more than 300 channels, including more than 25 high-definition channels, available in both the 720p and 1080i high-definition formats.

AT & T; said the service’s HD digital video recording capabilities allow for up to four programs to be recorded simultaneously, and with Web and remote access to DVR, AT & T; said U-verse subscribers can schedule recordings remotely through any Net-connected PC or compatible wireless phone with the use of their AT & T-Yahoo; account.

According to Brian Brokowski, AT & T; spokesman, U-verse’s “cooler than cable” Internet TV service expands the customer’s range of choices.

“It really takes us to the next level in terms of integrating all of the services that a customer is looking for in a home,” Brokowski said, referring to the four services that AT & T; now offers with the launch of U-verse , Internet, home phone, wireless phone and digital television.

Customers have a variety of packages to choose from, including five TV and three Internet packages, allowing them the freedom to customize their experience. The company also provides a premium Spanish-language package. AT & T;’s U-verse packages start at $44 a month.
