Goowy Media Inc., a San Diego firm that makes computer desktop software for targeted advertising, said it was acquired by AOL on Feb. 4 for an undisclosed price.
According to Dulles, Va.-based AOL, Goowy “offers a technology platform and related analytics tools that facilitate widget creation, syndication and reporting.”
The platform enables advertisers to provide real time content with more interactivity than traditional online ads, AOL said.
Founded in 2004, the firm was launched by Alex Bard and three other partners. In 2006, it obtained an investment from Mark Cuban, a high-tech entrepreneur and owner of the Dallas Mavericks professional basketball team, in the low seven figures, according to Bard.
Goowy Media has six employees, and will remain based in downtown San Diego.
