Anonymizer Inc., a San Diego-based provider of security software founded in 1995, said May 1 it was acquired by Abraxas Corp. for an undisclosed price.
Based in Herndon, Va., Abraxas is a developer and provider of security software to the defense industry. According to Inc. Magazine, last year the company generated $63 million in revenue and had 287 employees.
Abraxas said it will continue to operate Anonymizer as a wholly owned subsidiary, which will be headed by its current chief executive, Bill Unrue.
Anonymizer’s founder and chief technology officer, Lance Cottrell, becomes the chief scientist at Abraxas.
Anonymizer has about 50 employees, and offices in Mission Valley and Washington, D.C. It doesn’t disclose revenues, but in a 2003 Business Journal story Cottrell said the firm was on track to do about $3 million.
Anonymizer makes software that prevents the detection of a computer’s identity when its users are surfing the Internet.
