Scott Alevy has been named vice president of public policy and communications for the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, effective Feb. 1.

He was director of external affairs at SBC Communications Inc., following more than two decades working in government relations, public affairs and broadcast media.
Alevy also was on the Chula Vista City Council, being honored as a legislator of the year by the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce in 1996.
He chaired the successful campaign for a $187 million bond issue for Sweetwater Union High School District facilities in South Bay in November 2000.
Alevy serves as the president of the South San Diego County Economic Development Council; as a member of the San Diego Unified Port District chairman’s marketing task force; and is on the board of directors of the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce and the California Veterans Home Support Foundation.
A graduate of the University of Southern California, his work has been published in several national magazines.
