Aerial Views Offered By Entrepreneur

When Mark Lipsky scrutinizes photos in real estate magazines, the word “boring” usually comes to mind.

For Lipsky, life has always been about flying, engineering, computers and photography.

So when he combined his passions and started his 3-month-old aerial photo business, Flying Eye Photo, it was seeing a dream come true.

Lipsky uses a radio-controlled helicopter equipped with a digital camera to take aerial photos of buildings.

He describes the mechanism: “I meet with the people at the site, they get to wear a video display on their head and fly with me as we fly a helicopter around. (We) download the picture to a computer, do the retouching and print it on an ink-jet printer.”

Lipsky charges $239 for an 8-by-10-inch print and a CD.

He hopes once word gets out about his service, commercial and residential realtors will flock to Flying Eye Photo.

The entrepreneur divides his time between his two companies, both located in Mira Mesa and run without other employees.

In 1991, Lipsky started his first venture, Effective Engineering, where he produces and sells animatronics that make characters in haunted houses scary and animation in theme parks funny.
