The San Diego Humane Society and Macy’s department store got together recently to showcase back-to-school fashions and pets available for adoption.
It was a fashion show for all ages and breeds, so to speak.
Adoptable animals helped debut the latest in Macy’s Greendog brand children’s clothing at its Fashion Valley store.
“Macy’s Greendog children’s clothing line is a socially responsible brand, which has a soft spot for homeless pets,” said Gigi Bacon Theberge, director of marketing and public relations for the Humane Society.
The event featured informal modeling, a special appearance by the Greendog character, adoptable animals, face painting, balloons, kids’ activities and more.
“The event was a lot fun,” Theberge said. “We love working with partners like Macy’s to help bring homeless animals out into the community and find them homes.”
The Humane Society and Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals raised more than $200 at the event. Macy’s parent company, Federated Department Stores, and Petco each donated matching funds.
The Humane Society has a mobile adoption unit that goes out every month to select locations. The society has partnered with numerous local businesses to promote their cause, including Petco, PetSmart, and Mission Valley Center shopping mall.
Each year, the society has about 3,500 animals adopted.
For more than 120 years, the Humane Society has provided vital services to animals like shelter and adoption services, reinforcement of behavior training for adoptable animals, cruelty to animals investigations and pet-assisted therapy programs.
