A Sad Passing in the Business Community

A Sad Passing in the Business Community

EDITORIAL

By Rick Bell

It was with great sadness that, over the long Labor Day weekend, San Diego lost one of its truly great business leaders.

Gerry Wilson, who headed the Better Business Bureau for eight years, died Sept. 2 at the age of 67. Mr. Wilson took the bureau to new levels after retiring from the advertising business, building membership from some 2,200 to more than 6,100 before leaving in March due to health problems.

But more than turning the bureau into the county’s largest business membership organization, Mr. Wilson was a crusader for ethics in business and was always looking out for the little guy. He was affable, approachable and had a passion for doing the right thing.

Mr. Wilson was fond of, as he put it, “shining light on the fungus.” Thanks to his leadership at the Better Business Bureau, that light will continue to shine brightly.
