Mexico’s customs service expects to limit some border crossings, including shipments of goods, Jan. 20 because of nationwide protests aimed at President-elect Donald Trump.
The country’s tax services administration, Servicio de Administración Tributaria, or SAT, announced that it would “partially or totally” restrict the flow of cargo and light vehicles Jan. 20 at crossings affected by the protests.
It said the measures were intended to ensure the safety of anyone using the crossings and avoid confrontations.
The two following days, Jan. 21 and 22, the nation’s customs officials hope to make up for any import or export delays the protests may have caused. It said customs will extend normal operating hours for light vehicles at crossings affected by the protests, and that other options may be made available.
The SAT said imports and exports will be permitted at crossings other than those specified in official paperwork, in coordination with the custom offices involved.
