Aviva Systems Biology Corp. Acquires GenWay Biotech

San Diego-based antibody manufacturer Aviva Systems Biology Corp. has acquired GenWay Biotech Inc., another San Diego company that makes proteins.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“This transaction will uniquely position ASB as a leader in product development, production, and services to assist customers with their research and diagnostic needs,” said the company in a statement released Thursday.

ASB, which has manufactured more than 50,000 antibodies to target more than 20,000 human genes, also has offices in the Chinese cities of Beijing and Tianjin.

“GenWay’s 18 years of experience producing proteins, antibodies, and ELISA assays will nicely complement ASB’s objective to become a leading provider of proteomic solutions,” said Peter Jiang, ASB’s chief executive officer.

(ELISA assays are used to detect an antibody or antigen in a sample; proteomics is the large-scale study of proteins.)

“We see opportunities to expand both ASB’s and GenWay’s existing businesses as a result from this acquisition,” Jiang said.
