“I’m completely surprised by this,” Brooke said after he came forward to accept the award, adding that while the trophy went to him, it properly belongs to his entire staff.

“We wouldn’t be able to do all we do in the community if it wasn’t for the hard work of our team,” he said.

Brooke is responsible for the management of a credit union with more than $600 million in assets, serving 30,000 members in San Diego and Riverside counties.

He has more than 25 years of credit union industry experience, a broad understanding of all facets of credit union operations, strong knowledge of finance and accounting functions and excellent interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills.

Brooke was nominated by Adriana Brunner, the organization’s director of business development. She considers Brooke a mentor.

Brunner described Brooke as a leader who is connected to his team. He meets with team members personally.

“He leads several programs to empower his employees as part of the mentoring and job shadowing program,” Brunner said. “Dave meets with the participants of the program and offers guidance and mentoring tips. Dave also offers a frequent lunch program to share experiences and help them grow personally and professionally.”

Brooke also takes an active hand in MyPoint’s community endeavors.

“Dave leads our scholarship program and what it is exceptional is that he gets to know the scholarship awardees and their families, and even stays in contact with them during the college years,” Brunner explained. “Also, he meets our small business members one by one. He meets the businesses owners to learn about what they do.”

Brooke also helps oversee MyPoint’s financial literacy programs, including a recent partnership with Amna Sanctuary to offer financial literacy and help open bank accounts for more than 45 Ukrainian families displaced by the war.

Engaged and Supportive

The MyPoint organization strives to provide its members with memorable experiences, Brunner said.

“At MyPoint Credit Union, we want to help these doers – individuals, families, local businesses and everyone in-between – do more of the things they love in the city they call home. For over 75 years, we’ve been helping our members make the most out of their finances so they can live life on their own terms. Life may be short, but it should be awesome, and that’s why we’re focused on helping our members get the most out of their lives.”

MyPoint Credit Union has partnered with a wide variety of organizations and it positively impacts the following: Accessity San Diego, BBB Ignite Innovation Center, Burnham Center for Community Advancement, Chicano Federation, El Cajon Home Improvement Association, Empowering Latino Futures, Kim Center for Social Balance, La Revista Binacional, MAAC, North Park Main Street, North County Philanthropy Council, National Latina Business Women Association, San Diego Business Women Center (mentors, sponsors and advocates for small businesses), Scoop San Diego (founding member of first ice cream festival in San Diego, supporting ice cream small businesses).

MyPoint supports multiple chambers of commerce and business associations serving Carlsbad, Oceanside, East County, National City, North San Diego, as well as the Hispanic community. It has ties to the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Greater San Diego, San Diego-Colombian Chamber of Commerce, Asian Business Association and North Park Main Street.

MyPoint Credit Union is open to all, having taken the pledge to reject discrimination.

IN HIS OWN WORDS:

“I am deeply honored and humbled to be recognized by the San Diego Business Journal as a CEO of the Year, alongside a remarkable group of accomplished nominees. This recognition serves as a powerful affirmation of the collective efforts of the MyPoint team as we strive to make a meaningful impact on the San Diego community. I take immense pride in the incredible talent that surrounds me — including a forward-thinking board of directors and a team of dedicated individuals who share my passion for serving our members and the community.”
