San Diego County Credit Union, the region’s largest locally owned financial institution based on assets, announced Dec. 23 that it will return as a title sponsor of college football’s Poinsettia Bowl in 2012.
The eighth annual San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl will match a Mountain West Conference team against Brigham Young University if BYU is bowl-eligible with at least six wins.
The 2012 bowl schedule has not been finalized. Texas Christian University beat Louisiana Tech University 31-24 in the 2011 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, played Dec. 21 at Snapdragon Stadium (Qualcomm Stadium).
It was the nation’s only game, among the 35 postseason college football games, to have a credit union as title sponsor. The San Diego-based credit union has served as the title sponsor since the bowl game’s inception in 2005.
Since its founding, $1 from every admission ticket sold has gone directly to the San Diego chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, according to a statement from the credit union.
The credit union operates 28 branches in San Diego, Riverside and Orange counties, with a member base of 224,000 and assets of $5.4 billion.
