A new effort is afoot to help homeless San Diegans.
The Lucky Duck Foundation and Bill Walton will offer details of a new initiative early next week. Their Tuesday briefing will also address the current state of homelessness in the region.
Pat and Stephanie Kilkenny co-founded the Lucky Duck Foundation in 2005. Through it, they have shared millions of dollars to alleviate social issues such as homelessness. They have also encouraged friends and family to “share their luck” to help those in need. The Kilkennys have worked closely with the informal Tuesday Group that regularly meets downtown to discuss best practices to ameliorate the homelessness situation.
Bill Walton is a San Diego County resident and a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Since 2010 he has been executive chairman of the San Diego Sport Innovators group.
Further details on the effort will be announced Tuesday morning at the University of San Diego. Scheduled to speak are Drew Moser, executive director of the Lucky Duck Foundation; Dan Shea, executive committee member with the Lucky Duck Foundation; and Walton.
Shea has led the Tuesday Group with San Diego Padres owner Peter Seidler.
