Bill Howe Acquires Specialized Pipe Technologies

SERVICES: Deal Fuels Expansion, Growth at Family-Owned Firm

San Diego-based Bill Howe Plumbing, Heating & Air, Flood & Restoration has acquired Specialized Pipe Technologies (SPT), a local company and a leader in pipe inspection cleaning, and non-invasive pipe lining.

The acquisition, announced on August 25, is part of a substantial expansion for Bill Howe Family of Companies, which also recently purchased a 40,000-square-foot office building in Kearny Mesa that will be their new corporate office.

The acquisition of the new assets marks a key step in the family-owned company’s expansion plans, as the owners pass the torch to the next generation of Howe family leadership.

The addition of SPT substantially expands Bill Howe’s lining division, including new vehicles, 21 highly skilled employees and state of the art equipment.

According to Jamie Howe-Stolis, manager of the lining division, this is good news for their commercial clients, since Bill Howe can now handle bigger, more complex commercial projects. For example, the company is currently re-piping and re-lining large apartment complexes in City Heights and Pacific Beach.

With the acquisition of their new office space at 9210 Sky Park Court in Kearny Mesa, and substantial increase in corporate headquarters’ square footage, the company has more room to accommodate their more than 200 employees as well as a growing inventory of vehicles and equipment.

Passing the Torch

Another major change in the 42-year-old family-owned company: Bill and Tina Howe are passing responsibility for day to day operations to the second generation of Howe’s – their three daughters.

Jessica Howe-Groat is the CFO; Haley Howe runs the flood and restoration division, and Jamie Howe-Stolis oversees the plumbing and lining services.

The Howe siblings joined the company over the past 10 years and Tina says her daughters bring new ideas regarding how to take the company to the next level. This includes expanding the flood and restoration division to include not only water, fire and flood restoration but also full kitchen and bathroom remodels.

Bill Howe is one of the only local, family-owned plumbing companies operating in San Diego and the firm has proven itself to be one of the most reliable and trusted plumbing, HVAC and flood & restoration companies in San Diego. With its legions of loyal local repeat clients, Bill Howe strives to provide legendary customer service – and also gives back through charity work to the San Diego community.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, the San Diego Food Bank and Veterans 360 are just a few of the local nonprofits the company has supported over the years.

Humble Roots

Bill Howe, an entrepreneur from a young age, started Bill Howe Plumbing in 1980 out of his apartment in Pacific Beach with one goal in mind—to give San Diego a plumbing company they could trust and rely on.

Tina Howe joined Bill on his mission in 1983.

Today, Bill Howe is home to over 200 employees. The company offers excellent customer service and has an 80% repeat and referral customer base.

The company motto – “We know Howe” – says it all.

Bill and Tina Howe say the company’s success is rooted in its vision statement – to always put people before profits. For over 40 years, the quality customer care, ethical transparency and five-star service that Bill Howe has prioritized since operating out of that PB apartment, has led the firm to become one of the most reliable and trusted plumbing, HVAC and flood & restoration companies in San Diego.
