The U.S. Navy said Dec. 5 that it placed a $9.6 million software order with Northrop Grumman Corp.
Under the deal, Northrop (NYSE: NOC) engineers will work on code for the MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft. They will update software and correct deficiencies.
Work will take place in Rancho Bernardo and continue through December 2017. The Navy placed its order under a previously issued basic ordering agreement.
The Triton is a version of the Global Hawk aircraft Northrop builds for the U.S. Air Force. It carries specialized sensors for ocean surveillance.
