QED Systems Inc. received a five-year contract to provide services to the U.S. Navy, a contract that will bring tens of millions of dollars to the San Diego region.
Under the deal, QED will provide engineering and planning support services. It will work in San Diego and two other port cities to help the Navy plan maintenance and modernization for Nimitz-class aircraft carriers.
The entire deal is worth $53.8 million, and the contract wraps up in January 2022. The Navy has an option to extend the contract six months and increase its value to $59.4 million.
Some 40 percent of the contract — or $21.5 million — will be performed in San Diego.
QED, which has its main office in Virginia Beach, Va., was the only bidder on the deal.
Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center Norfolk awarded the deal, announced Dec. 29.
In July, the Navy awarded QED a contract modification to plan shipyard visits and maintenance periods for Ticonderoga-class cruisers and Arleigh Burke-class destroyers.
