The U.S. Navy awarded Indiana-based Energy Systems Group LLC a $187.7 million task order to make improvements at Naval Base Coronado.
Under the deal, ESG will design and install improvements to the base’s compressed air and steam delivery systems, decentralizing them to conserve energy.
The contractor will operate and maintain the systems, providing services such as repair and replacement. Work will continue through 2041.
Energy Systems Group will obtain private financing for the project. A Pentagon announcement said that the Energy Policy Act of 1992 authorizes agencies to use private financing to fulfill its requirements for energy savings performance contracts for project implementation.
The Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center of Port Hueneme awarded the task order, announced on Dec. 13. The command received six proposals.
