The U.S. Navy awarded a San Diego-based joint venture a $42.4 million contract to replace electrical systems on piers at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia.
The RQ-Blackwater joint venture is based in Carlsbad.
The contract calls for the companies to remove existing 480-volt shore power and industrial power systems on several piers and replace them with new systems. Work will run through late 2019.
The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid-Atlantic in Norfolk awarded the contract, announced on Aug. 31. Two businesses bid on the work.
