Chamber Names 2022 Small Business Award Winners

EVENTS: FIRMS ‘BACKBONE OF OUR REGION’ SAYS SANDERS

The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce celebrated small businesses and their significant contributions to our communities and regional economy through the Small Business Awards. Chamber member businesses with 50 or fewer employees were eligible to apply or be nominated for awards in five categories: Peak Performance, Outstanding Emerging Business, Community Minded, Customers First, and Outstanding Minority, Woman, Veteran, DBE-Owned Business.

“In San Diego, small businesses represent more than 95% of businesses. They are the backbone of our region’s economy, fueling innovation, creating jobs, and bringing character to our communities,” said Jerry Sanders, Chamber president and CEO. “Their determination, innovation, industriousness, and generosity embody the Chamber’s mission to make San Diego the best place to live and work.”

This year’s Small Business Awards were presented in front of an audience of 300 at the Harbor View Loft on Harbor Island.

2022 Small Business Awardees are:

Armed Services YMCA San Diego – Winner of the Community Minded Award which recognizes an organization dedicated to helping others or that’s leading an initiative/program focused on making a positive impact in the community.

“The Armed Services YMCA San Diego has made a profound impact on our military community through programs relevant to the unique challenges of military life, allowing the families they serve to feel lifted, connected, and supported,” the Chamber said.

Beach Break Insurance Agency – Winner of the Customers First Award for providing exemplary customer service.

“Beach Break Insurance Agency is dedicated to putting customers first and maintaining personal relationships with clients, even having agents on call 24/7, which has earned them a 5-Star Google review rating,” according to the Chamber.

San Diego Tequila Tour – Winner of the Outstanding Emerging Business Award recognizing a small business in operation for less than five years that has contributed to our region’s economic vitality and demonstrated revenue growth and staying power.
“Launched in 2019, San Diego Tequila Tour was forced to pivot its business model due to COVID but bounced back quickly to resume leading tours and has achieved a 90% perfect rating on its over 300 customer reviews.”

Girlie Garage – Winner of the Outstanding Minority, Woman, Veteran, DBE-Owned Business Award which celebrates the success of a small business contributing to the growth and diversity of the San Diego economy.

The Chamber said the woman-owned and operated Girlie Garage “is dedicated to empowering and educating women about their vehicles so they can be more confident and safer on the road.”

Computers 2 Kids – Winner of the Peak Performance Award given to an organization that has demonstrated a significant achievement or major win in the last year.

“The pandemic brought the digital divide to the forefront and Computers 2 Kids met the need of more than 85,000 kids and families across the U.S. by providing technology,” said the Chamber. “They also developed a first-of-its-kind app that is helping ensure that anyone with a phone has access to low-cost internet and devices.”

All award nominations were evaluated by a panel of former award winners and Chamber Ambassadors who reviewed applications and scored them based on how well they met the award category criteria. Winners were selected based on the highest score in each category.

The San Diego Regional Chamber is the largest local Chamber on the West Coast, representing more than 2,000 businesses and an estimated 300,000 jobs.
