SDBCC to Host Event Celebrating Trailblazing Women of Color

The County of San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce (SDBCC) will host an event on March 31 celebrating some of the area’s trailblazing women of color.

Jeanine McLean, president of MBK Entertainment, will be among the guest speakers and panelists for the upcoming event. With years of experience in the music industry, McLean is a former representative of Grammy-winning artists such as Alicia Keys, HER and Tyrese among others. She has been recognized on Billboard’s R&B Power Players list and Pollstar’s Power 50 Executives list.

McLean will be joined in the panel by Dr. Sheryl White, Psychologist, OD Practitioners, and Executive Coach and Marshaun Olaniyan, Relationship Strategist.

The event, to be hosted by Natay Holmes, an Emmy-winning morning news producer for KGTV 10News San Diego, will feature a panel discussion of trailblazing Black women who will share personal stories and insights on navigating systemic barriers and societal expectations to achieve their goals.

In addition to the panel discussion, attendees can enjoy a night of food, entertainment, networking, and an awards presentation.

The 2023 “Celebrating A Woman’s Worth” honorees include:

• Council President Pro Tem Monica Montgomery Steppe, City of San Diego, District 4
• Jeanine McLean, Managing Partner, MBK Entertainment, Inc.
• Julie Coker, President, Tourism Authority
• Rockette Ewell, California Regional Manager, Community Affairs
• C.J. Smith, CEO, Revenue Boss
• Kea Hagan, Director of Administration and Programs, Urban League of San Diego County

“As Women’s History Month comes to a close, we want to take a moment to honor the outstanding Black women who have made significant contributions to our community,” said Donna DeBerry, president and CEO of the CSDBCC. “Through their resilience, tenacity, and brilliance, they have shattered sticky floors and paved the way for generations to come. It’s time we give these trailblazers the recognition they deserve for their extraordinary accomplishments and the ‘black girl magic’ they bring to San Diego.”

The event will take place at UCSD Park & Market, 1100 Market Street, San Diego on Friday, March 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. with live entertainment and networking opportunities.
