2009 Most Admired CEO Awards - 11/18/2009

2009 Women Who Mean Business Awards - 10/27/2009
OCTOBER 27, 2009 -- 1,100 people gathered to celebrate the 167 Women Who Mean Business Nominees at a luncheon located at the Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center in Mission Valley. Meg Whitman, former eBay President and CEO as well as California gubernatorial Candidate, served as the keynote speaker. Event emcees Patricia Brown and Geni Cavitt announced the 33 honorees including four special awards: Community Service Award to Laurin Pause with Community Resource Center; Courage Award to Linda Olson with UC San Diego’s Medical Center/Horton Hospital; Exemplary Award to Deborah Bell with Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar and Air Force Inspection Agency and the Lifetime Achievement Award to Captain Sandra Buckles with SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific. 100 Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies - 9/17/2009
The San Diego Business Journal held its annual after-hours gathering Sept. 17 to honor executives and entrepreneurs who earned spots on the 2009 list of the 100 Fastest-Growing Private Companies in the region. The awards event was held outdoors at The Westgate Hotel. More than 500 chief executives, their employees, guests and event and publication sponsors crowded the sprawling outdoor patio of the hotel to view the ceremonies. Publisher Armon Mills and Associate Publisher Reo Carr served as hosts and masters of ceremonies for the event, which also featured a brief appearance from San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, who addressed the importance of the city and the region as a business mecca for young firms. The list is compiled and published each year by the editorial research department at the Business Journal, and is based on growth in revenues during a three-year period starting with 2006. A good time was had by all.
CFO of the Year - 7/16/2009
The San Diego Business Journal and presenting sponsor Robert Half Management Resources recognized 45 finalists and 16 honorees on July 16th at the Doubletree Hotel San Diego- Mission Valley. The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Hal Dunning with Barney and Barney LLC and the Exemplary Award was given to Paul Sullivan with the YMCA of San Diego County. 2009 Best Places to Work Awards - 5/20/2009
The San Diego Business Journal would like to congratulate the finalists and honorees selected using the methodologies of Best Companies Group for the San Diego's 10th Annual Best Places to Work Awards. 2009 Information Technology Executive of the Year Awards - 4/23/2009
The San Diego Business Journal and presenting sponsor Cox Business recognized 80 finalists and 13 honorees on April 23rd at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. More than 675 people were in attendance. The 13 honorees included a Lifetime Achievement Honoree Award for Qualcomm's Norm Fjeldheim and an Exemplary Award for SAIC's Elliott Allen.

2009 Book of Lists Party - 1/29/2009
On January 29, 2009 the San Diego Business Journal hosted their annual Book of List Party. The reception was an invite only event for advertisers and companies who are listed in the book for 2009. The networking celebration was held from 4 to 7 pm at the San Diego Hall of Champions museum. Sponsors and advertisers who contributed to the publication were recognized with plaques. 2008 Most Admired CEO Awards - 11/18/2008

2008 Family-Owned & Closely-Held Business Award - 11/5/2008
Nearly 400 guests attended the Family-Owned & Closely-Held Business Awards ceremony, which was hosted by the Business Journal on Nov. 5 at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar.
The after-hours gathering recognized the accomplishments of businesses in the county that are family owned or closely held. Co-emcees Publisher Armon Mills and Associate Publisher Reo Carr honored nine businesses in three categories — small, medium and large — and gave out four Special Diamond Sponsor Awards to select participants.
Event co-hosts included the Entrepreneurial Management Center in the College of Business Administration at San Diego State University and the Continuing Education Family Business Forum at University of San Diego. Doug Wilson of Douglas Wilson Cos. was the guest speaker and a bronze sponsor of the event. Diamond sponsors were ESET LLC, MassMutual Financial Group, San Diego National Bank and RSM McGladrey. 2008 Women Who Mean Business - 10/23/2008
The San Diego Business Journal’s 15th Annual Women Who Mean Business Awards drew 900 participants to the Town and Country Resort & Convention Center on Oct. 23. The event recognized 30 honorees, with special recognition given for exemplary service, community service, community leadership and courage as well as for executive team. The awards dinner also raised $3,800 for Rachel’s Women’s Center and $5,300 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation through an auction of flowers at the event. The emcees for the dinner were Geni Cavitt, weekend weather forecaster from KGTV Channel 10 news, and Pat Brown from NBC 7/39 News. 2008 HR Professional of the Year Awards - 6/18/2008
This first annual event recognized the most outstanding Human Resources Professionals who work in San Diego as nominated by their employees, employers and clients. An independent panel of judges selected 5 honorees in the Private category, 2 Honorees in the public category, 2 honorees in the non profit category and 1 honoree in the Government Category. 2008 CFO of the Year Awards - 5/14/2008
Local business networkers were in abundance as more than 500 guests and invitees attended the Business Journal’s CFO of the Year Awards event May 14 at the Marriott Hotel & Marina. Publisher Armon Mills and Associate Publisher Reo Carr served as masters of ceremonies of the event, which honored 15 of the region’s chief financial officers. Robert Half Management Resources served as title sponsor of the event, while Barney & Barney, CBIZ Mayer Hoffman McCann P.C., CFO Roundtable, Financial Executives International, also known as FEI, RR Donnelly and Wachovia served as co-sponsors for the fete. The purpose of the CFO of the Year Awards was to highlight the importance of the CFO to a business enterprise, and the role CFOs play in the success of an organization. 7th Annual Family Owned Business Awards - 12/13/2007
On December 13, 2007, The San Diego Business Journal partnered with the University of San Diego's Family Business Forum to present awards to six of the region's outstanding family owned businesses. Title Sponsored by Wachovia Bank; the event recognizes family businesses in categories of Small, Medium, Large, Emerging, Longevity and Community Action. There were finalists and honorees in the small, medium and large company categories. The honoree for the small category was Granite Gold; Medium category was Caffe Bella Italia; and Large Category was McMahon Steel Co.,Inc. The Emerging company award went to No Boundaries Inc. The Longevity Award went to J.R. Filanc Construction Co. Inc. and the Community Action Award went to K-Co Construction Inc.

2007 14th Annual Women Who Mean Business Awards - 11/1/2007
This was the14th year for this premier program, which recognized local women business leaders for their excellence in career and community. This year there were a total of 127 nominations. An Independent panel of judges determined the top 25 honorees for the evening. In addition there were several special awards handed out. Including Community Service Award, Community Service Leadership Award, A Courage Award, an Executive Team Award to Alvarado Hospital Women, in addition to a special Exemplary award for General Angela Salinas. Prior to the awards program there was a silent auction where all proceeds benefited Rachel's Women's Center. The highlight of the evening, aside from recognizing hundreds of women, was money that was raised to help fire rescue teams in San Diego. The San Diego Foundation's After the Fire Fund 2007, matched donations raised the evening of the event; and sponsors of the event contributed large donations as well.
Pat Brown and Jane Mitchell were the evenings emcees. Ronne Froman and Patti Roscoe were the two keynote speakers. The annual dinner event was held at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center in Mission Valley.

Fastest 100 Growing Privately Held Companies - 9/20/2007
Each year the San Diego Business Journal researches and publishes the list of Fast Growing Private Companies in the San Diego area. This year the San Diego Business Journal hosted its fourth annual 100 Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies Event, in which all 100 companies found out where they ranked out of 100. The firms who attended the event on September 20, 2007 at The Westgate Hotel, had revenue growth from 2004 to 2006 of 766%. Individually the companies who attended had any where between two full time staffers and six hundred- and together employed more than 8, 466 people in and around San Diego.

San Diego's Best Places to Work Awards - 2/22/2007
The San Diego Business Journal, Fashion Valley, Kaiser Permanente, KFORCE Professional Staffing, and Vistage International present the 8th Annual San Diego's Best Places to Work Awards. Companies are nominated by their own employees and are awarded in the small, medium and large business categories.
This years awards featured 95 nominated firms. 20 companies received an award. There were two small categories. One was for companies with less that 50 employees. The other was for companies with 51 to 150 employees. The medium category was for 150 to 500 employees. The large category was companies who have over 500 employees. The event was the largest Best Places to Work Awards Ceremony yet, with over 500 attendees. Congratulations to all of this years Honorees!
