According to a news release, Carlsbad-based SPY Optic, makers of sunglasses, goggles, helmets and prescription eyewear, has been acquired by France-headquartered Bolle Brands, an eyewear and head protection group. The terms of the deal were undisclosed.
The acquisition will “significantly bolster Bolle Brands’ scale in North America, will allow SPY Optic to benefit from increased investment in product development and distribution, and will facilitate an international expansion of the SPY Optic brand beyond its current footprint,” according to the release.
Founded in 1994, SPY Optic is best known for its “cross” logo, and has built a reputation in the action sports segment, most notably showcased in its Happy Lens technology, states the release. SPY will join other Bolle brands, including Bolle, Bolle Safety, Serengeti, Cebe and H20ptix.
