SD 500 recap: Celebrity chef Brian Malarkey is adding two new restaurants to his impressive list of successes – Herb & Sea and Animae are expected to open in 2019. Malarkey and business partner Christopher Puffer operator Herb & Wood, Herb & Eatery, three healthy fast-service restaurants, Green Acre and Farmer & The Seahorse. Malarkey was the founding executive chef of Searsucker and Herringbone restaurants, which sold majority stake to Hakkasan Group in 2014. Malarkey’s Little Italy and downtown eateries have won awards locally and nationally, including Zagat, Eater, and San Diego Magazine. He is heavily involved with Surfer’s Healing, a chimpanzee sanctuary in Bend, Ore., Feeding America, The Berry Good Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
