San Diego David Hale, one of San Diego’s most prominent life science leaders, has announced the completion of a $60 million Series A financing for Neurana Pharmaceuticals Inc.
Hale is chairman and interim president and CEO of Neurana, which is focused on the treatment of neuromuscular conditions, such as acute, painful muscle spasms. Hale is CEO of Hale BioPharma Ventures LLC and has led more than a dozen biotech and pharma companies. His roots trace back to San Diego’s first biotech — Hybritech.
The financing was led by Sofinnova Ventures and included participation from New Leaf Venture Partners, H.I.G. BioHealth Partners, Longitude Capital and MagnaSci Ventures.
David Kabakoff of Sofinnova Ventures, an SD 500 member, is among the founders joining the Neurana board of directors.

Scott Biel has joined local law firm Solomon Ward Seidenwurm & Smith LLP to practice in their real estate department. Biel previously was a partner at Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo PC and head of their corporate real estate practice. He joined that firm in 2007.
Kristin Slink, co-founder of Loan Hero and one of San Diego’s early fintech leaders, has relocated to Georgia following the company’s acquisition by Lending Point. Loan Hero has been rebranded as Lending Point Merchant Solutions.
