Silicon Valley’s Metawave Opens Engineering Office in Carlsbad

Metawave Corp., a Silicon Valley company with an interest in automotive radar, said on June 6 that it has opened a development center in Carlsbad.

The company — which also has an interest in fifth-generation (5G) wireless communications — said it hopes to tap Southern California’s engineering talent pool. Specifically it is looking for expertise in millimeter wave as well as radio frequency circuit design.

The company wants to work in autonomous vehicles, fixed wireless and 5G cellular networks.

The company’s 15,000 square feet of building space is near commuter rail lines. The facility will have open bays to accommodate a vehicle test fleet.

Metawave was founded in 2017. Its investors include Toyota AI Ventures, Denso, Hyundai, Khosla Ventures, Motus Ventures, Thyra Global, Autotech Venture and Bold Capital.
