Huntington Ingalls Industries, which runs a U.S. Navy ship repair business in Barrio Logan, anticipates laying off 60 workers on Aug. 3, a spokeswoman said.

The shipyard is also known as Continental Maritime.

“Due to the cyclical nature of ship repair, we continuously review our program and staffing requirements and make adjustments based on many factors, including current and future workload,” the company representative said. “Laying off employees is a last step taken after exhausting other employment opportunities across our business.”

Continental Maritime told the state employment office in June that it planned to lay off as many as 235 people.
