Sergio Garcia — the Spanish golfer who won the Masters Tournament in April — signed a multiple year contract with Callaway Golf Co., the Carlsbad business announced on Jan. 2. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Callaway (NYSE: ELY) will supply Garcia with woods, irons, wedges and a Callaway Chrome Soft ball. Garcia will take an Odyssey putter to the green. Garcia will also display the Callaway logo on both sides of his hat.
Garcia, 37, has won 30 tournaments worldwide — including 10 on the PGA Tour — since turning professional in 1999. He won the signature green jacket of the Masters in April at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.
“Sergio has been one of the world’s most talented and charismatic players for almost 20 years. It will be fun to see what he can do using Callaway equipment,” Callaway CEO Chip Brewer said in a prepared statement.
The company said its tour staff was able to improve Garcia’s distance and control by optimizing his equipment.
