CalPrivate Bank – until recently known as San Diego Private Bank – has named Rick Sowers as its president.
Sowers was most recently president of Plaza Bank, which was acquired by Pacific Premier Bank in 2017.
Thomas Wornham remains president and CEO of the bank’s parent company, Private Bancorp of America Inc.
Sowers joined Plaza Bank when it merged with Bank of Manhattan, where he served as chief banking officer. Previously Sower spent a decade as an vice president and associate partner at CAST Management Consultants and worked at Accenture Consulting in Los Angeles.
He graduated from UC San Diego with an economics degree.
Wornham said Sowers will initially focus on business north of Camp Pendleton, while Paul Azzi, San Diego market president, will continue to build the bank’s business in San Diego County.
CalPrivate has branches in Coronado, San Diego, La Jolla, Newport Beach and Beverly Hills.
San Diego Private Bank and its associated branches were rebranded as CalPrivate Bank in January.
