Biological Dynamics, a San Diego cancer diagnostics company, named Irwin Jacobs and Martin Wygod to its board, it was announced April 13.
Jacobs is the founding chairman and CEO emeritus of Qualcomm and Wygod is the founder of Medco Containment Services and former chairman of WebMD Health Corp, which was acquired for $2.8 billion last year.
Biological Dynamics is developing a suite of novel oncology tests for early cancer detection, treatment response and recurrence monitoring. Along with lab-focused products, the company looks to bring molecular testing into homes through a smartphone version of its platform.
In 2015, the company raised $26.8 million in a Series C investment and convertible debt, with Jacobs among the investors.
“As one of our earliest investors, Irwin has a deep understanding of our ability to transform the way cancer is detected and diagnosed. His experience and insight, which helped make the smartphone the world’s most ubiquitous platform, will be incredibly valuable as we plan to introduce portable molecular testing into the home,” said Raj Krishnan, CEO of Biological Dynamics.
