New York-based Union Bank said April 12 it hired Barry Wellins as regional director for its private banking team in San Diego.
Wellins, who recently relocated from Texas, will be based in the San Diego corporate office where he will manage a team of private bankers.
Wellins has held senior leadership roles in retail, digital and small business banking for a number of financial institutions in Texas, New York, Arizona and California throughout his 20-year career in the industry, according to Union Bank.
His experience includes a prior stint with Union Bank: From 2001-2003, Wellins was the bank's Santa Monica branch manager.
As of the end of 2017, Union Bank had 361 branches, primarily in West Coast states.
The bank's parent company is Tokyo-based Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (NYSE: MTU); its formal name is MUFG Union Bank.
