The U.S. Navy offers business opportunities in some of the most remote real estate in Southern California. Case in point: San Clemente Island, about 75 miles west of San Diego County, which the Navy uses as a bombing and gunnery range.

The service awarded PAE Applied Technologies LLC, a business in the national capital region with a workforce in San Diego, a $35.1 million contract modification, covering continued operations, maintenance and logistic support services for the Southern California Offshore Range on San Clemente Island.

The deal includes work on range support craft as well as the range-related databases.

Fifty percent of the work will be performed on San Clemente Island and 50 percent will be done in San Diego. The Naval Surface Warfare Center’s Corona Division in Norco awarded the contract, announced Oct. 5.
