Retirement Town … Not Anymore

Planning to retire?

Thanks partly to the high cost of housing, the San Diego metropolitan region is not the place for you, according to a report from Bankrate.com.

San Diego was ranked 23rd among 50 metro regions reviewed by the organization, which provides consumer financial information online.

Even Los Angeles is better, ranked third.

“San Diego received great scores for its weather, low crime rate and good transportation,” said Kayleen Yates, Bankrate.com vice president of corporate communications.

“However, the metro’s high cost of living and tax burden could make it unfeasible for some retirees,” Yates said.

Pittsburg was rated number one, despite having poor weather, poor public transportation with an average rating for things to do and taxes.

A very low cost of living, a very low crime rate and good health care won the day for Pittsburg, followed by Boston, Los Angeles, Denver and Providence for the top five cities.

Last place went to the Riverside/San Bernardino metro area.
