UC San Diego and UC Irvine Health are now on an integrated electronic medical records platform that’s designed to increase efficiencies, improve patient care and boost research collaboration.
The medical centers share a single instance of Epic, a cloud-based repository for medical records. The health systems billed it as the first time Epic has been extended from one U.S. academic medical center to another.
Combined, the two organizations serve Imperial, San Diego, Riverside and Orange counties.
UC San Diego Health implemented Epic in 2005, while UC Irvine Health, along with UC Riverside Health clinics, began using UC San Diego’s version this month.
Financial terms of the arrangement were not disclosed.
