Bose Corp. Buys Hush

Bose Corp., the Massachusetts consumer electronics maker, has acquired Hush, a former tenant of the EvoNexus incubator in the University Towne Center neighborhood. Hush is the company founded by three UC San Diego students — all named Daniel — who brought a set of noise-cancelling earplugs to market. It seemed they saw a wide market opportunity in college-area apartments where students attempted to get a little undisturbed rest. The Business Journal profiled Hush in April 2015.

Bose approached the company about collaborating in August 2015 and completed its acquisition one year later; financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The partners went public recently when they launched an Indiegogo campaign to put together funds for new product, something they call noise-masking sleepbuds. The new product reportedly improves the battery life and overall comfort of the original Hush product. The partners plan to distribute 3,000 prototype units as part of a market research push in early 2018. The product should be available to the mass market later in the year.

Former Hush CEO Daniel “Ewok” Lee is now a systems engineer with Bose in Boston; Daniel “Chesong” Lee is lead mobile app developer.

Daniel Synn’s status was not immediately known.
