Qualcomm Executive Adds Duties of Chief Technology Officer

James H. Thompson, executive vice president of engineering with Qualcomm Technologies Inc., has been appointed to the additional position of CTO or chief technology officer.

Qualcomm Inc. (Nasdaq: QCOM) made the announcement on March 29.

Matt Grob, executive vice president of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., will transition from the role of CTO to the role of executive vice president of technology, Qualcomm Technologies Inc. Grob will continue to report to CEO Steve Mollenkopf.

Qualcomm Technologies houses several parts of the business, including the chip design and marketing unit. It excludes the part of the business that licenses its intellectual property portfolio.

Thompson has a doctorate in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison — which is also where he also received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
