Home of the month – A Cherished Place, In Del Mar History

If a house were to have a soul, the Canfield-Wright House in Del Mar, known locally as the “The Pink Lady,” would certainly be a candidate. The home was built in 1910 by Los Angeles oil tycoon Charles Canfield with architect John C. Austin, of the Shrine Auditorium and Griffith Observatory fame. On the National Register of Historic Places, it was saved from demolition in 2002 by residential home builder Bill Davidson and Del Mar citizens motivated to save a piece of Del Mar History. firm R. Douglas Mansfield Architect Inc. began the restoration. It was sold in 2007 to San Diego real estate developer Douglas Allred, who continued on with the effort until selling it in 2014. Now home to a new family, its legacy stares out over the Pacific Ocean, still, after more than 100 years.
