San Diego-based contract research organization SynteractHCR Holdings Corp. has hired Steve Powell as its new chief executive officer, replacing Wendel Barr, the firm’s CEO for six years.
Powell has more than 25 years of executive leadership experience in the contract research organization (CRO) and pharma/biotech industries.
“As large and mid-sized CROs consolidate, SynteractHCR has a unique opportunity to become a dominant CRO focused on the needs of highly innovative, pharma and biotech customers,” said Amulet partner and co-founder Ramsey Frank. “Under Steve’s leadership, SynteractHCR will be in position to take full advantage of this opportunity.”
Most recently, Powell was at ERT, which he joined though its acquisition of UK-headquartered digital healthcare solutions firm Exco InTouch in December 2016, where he was president and chief operating officer. Previously, he was executive vice president of clinical informatics and late phase services at PRA Health Sciences.
SynteractHCR, which was acquired by Greenwich, Conn.-based health care private equity firm Amulet Capital Partners LP in 2016, has conducted clinical trials for biopharma clients on six continents and 60 countries in a wide range of therapeutic areas since its founding in 1995.
