Barons Market recently opened a new store in North Park, the seventh location for the San Diego-headquartered specialty grocer.
A company statement said the 15,000-square-foot store is at 3231 E. University Ave. and employs more than 40. The location formerly housed Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market and was redesigned by Julie Dugas of Studio H2G to feature neighborhood-focused elements.
There are three custom murals completed in collaboration between Barons and five local artists. The store includes a coffee area featuring blends from local companies, an oil and vinegar tasting bar and hot soup bar, and also sells more than 400 micro-brewed craft beers.
The North Park location also has an expanded selection of fresh and all-natural grab-and-go items. Owned and operated by the Shemirani family, led by Joe Shemirani, Barons Market is based in Point Loma and operates stores in San Diego and Riverside counties.
