The San Diego office of general contractor BNBuilders has been hired to renovate an existing biomedical laboratory at California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena. A company statement said the guaranteed maximum price for the project is approximately $8.48 million.
Construction recently started at Caltech’s W.M. Keck Building, with renovations scheduled for completion in early 2017. The project’s design architect is AC Martin of Los Angeles.
The project will create a new laboratory for the work of Lihong Wang, a new professor of medical engineering at Caltech whose research is focused on living tissue imaging. The renovated space will include new imaging laboratories, a tissue culture room, instrument room and approximately 10,800 square feet of office space.
The work is being done by the San Diego office of Seattle-headquartered BNBuilders, which does projects in industries including life science, healthcare and education. The San Diego office is led by Principal Jamie Awford.
