San Diego-headquartered retailer Jerome’s Furniture has hired Brian Woods as its new chief executive officer, effective Sept. 7. Woods succeeds Lee Goodman, who recently announced plans to step down after more than a decade with the company.

A Jerome’s Furniture statement said Woods has more than 20 years of retail experience, most recently serving as president and chief merchandising officer of Virginia-based Haynes Furniture. Prior to that, he held executive positions at companies including American Signature Furniture and CompUSA.

“Throughout his entire career, Brian has worked to enhance the customers’ shopping experience, has been successful in highly competitive retail markets and has created brand differentiators that customers have embraced,” said Jerome’s Furniture Chairman Jerome “Jerry” Navarra, in a company statement. “He is a visionary team leader who has a talent for inspiring staff at all levels to achieve aggressive goals. We’re excited to have him aboard.”

Woods said the new position is his “dream job,” and Jerome’s Furniture’s values are “very much in line with mine.”

Founded in 1954, Jerome’s Furniture is a third-generation family business with 13 retail locations throughout Southern California. According to the industry news publication Furniture Today, the privately-run company finished 2015 with estimated sales of $196.9 million, ranking at No. 43 on the publication’s latest list of the nation’s Top 100 furniture retailers.
