LRAD Corp. received a $1.3 million order for mobile mass-notification systems, the North County company announced on Oct. 18.
LRAD (Nasdaq: LRAD) did not name its customer, saying only that it is one of the largest oil and gas companies in Eurasia. The customer plans to integrate LRAD electronics with a gas detection alarm system, and use the resulting system for public address, emergency communication and early warning.
The model 360XT has its emitters on a 30-foot telescoping mast, and includes 320-watt amplifiers and batteries, all mounted on a hardened, 2-ton trailer. The system can clearly broadcast messages 1 kilometer (0.6 mile) in every direction.
LRAD first went to market with highly directional sound systems. Its mass-notification systems, however, broadcast 360 degrees.
“Developing the most advanced, highest quality mass-notification systems has been one of our top domestic and international priorities,” Richard Danforth, the company’s CEO, said in a prepared statement.
LRAD is based in 4S Ranch. The business said it plans to ship the order in fiscal 2017.
Shares closed at $1.70 on Oct. 18, giving the business a market capitalization of about $54 million.
