The Defense Information Systems Agency awarded Carlsbad-based ViaSat Inc. a $33.1 million, one-year deal to provide senior leaders and their support staff with communications services over the ViaSat subscription service while traveling by aircraft. The government may continue the service for up to another year at its option.

The cumulative face value of the contract is $73.2 million, the Pentagon said in an announcement on June 1.

ViaSat (Nasdaq: VSAT) was the only company to submit a proposal for the firm-fixed-price contract. The Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization of Scott Air Force Base, Ill. awarded the contract.
